Newfoundland and Labrador
Newfoundland and Labrador, located at the most easterly point of North America, is home to hundreds of lakes and wetlands that birds frequent both for migratory stopover and nesting sites. The Province focuses on the conservation of significant tracts of wildlife habitat by working with municipalities, corporations and private landowners through the provincial Wildlife Division’s Municipal Habitat Stewardship Program. The Stewardship Association of Municipalities Inc. (SAM) is a central partner in the implementation of this program. Municipalities with signed habitat stewardship agreements work in partnership with the provincial government and NL EHJV partners to retain and enhance important wildlife habitat found within municipal planning boundaries.
